Personal Stuff - Linguistics thesis

My BA thesis was a 'linguistic analysis of the representation of 'foreign' in the national news section of The Times and The Guardian during a one week period." The text primarily uses Critical Discourse Analysis to accomplish its goal.

Critical Discourse Analysis basically assumes that we 'form' the world out of ideas and language, and that we are not simply 'reflecting truth' when we talk about things. In my paper I attempt to examine how two respected broadsheet newspapers from the UK construct and represent ideas surrounding people, places and events not immediately connected with Great Britain itself.

This paper was created during my time reading English, Politics, Media and Culture at the University of Wolverhampton. I graduated in 2002 with a 2i degree, and am forever grateful to the lecturers who guided me at that institution. I was based at the University of Wolverhampton School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and you can visit their homepage by clicking here.
